THE BOUNDLESS BENEFICENT
*if the idea of a plant zombie drone corpse of your character squicks you out, the ember seed made a whoopsie instead and gave them a double dose that turns them to a tidy pile of ash from which a single lovely flower of the player's choice springs up!
DESCRIPTION
A bipedal fungal creature, faceless and towering, it lumbers along with purpose. Think myconid plus fire elemental meets the "mold" of Remedy's Control.
BEHAVIOR
Beneficent can engulf entire rooms in fungus and floral growth in as little as an hour. It propagates this rapid growth wherever it goes, leaving trails of fungi and flora which seat into stone as easily as dirt and spreads as far as it can to release spores into the air that act like scouts. Its goal is to make drones out of the exiles. The drones it creates then try to burn existing areas in order to promote even more rapid growth and spread. It follows three steps to do so: infection (Ineffable Mind), enticement (Sporegasbord), and conversion (Heartburn).
INEFFABLE MIND
Inhaling spores left behind by Beneficent begins the process of creating drones. It causes hallucinations that bring repressed parts of an exile to the surface and make it easier to replace their own inner thoughts with the Beneficent's hivemind. The hum of the hivemind that drives it and its colony toward its singular goal is simple, and alluring: join. Spread. Burn. Seed. Root.
SPOREGASBORD
Getting spored makes the growth that spreads out from Beneficent's path smell sweet, and delicious. The fungi and flowers that grow at alarming rates in Beneficent's wake smell and look delicious— whatever that means to the exile affected. It makes them eager to eat the tasty morsels, sure that it will cease the suffering they have put themselves through.
HEART(BURN)
A tasty morsel once eaten begins to burn its consumer empty until the flames complete the cleansing, and allow new growth to sprout from the animated corpse* which glows from within. The eater becomes Bound: a burning husk* which breathes embers which allow it to burn an area into fertile ash so that the Boundless Beneficent can spread more easily. These husks are drones that exist only to follow this directive: Burn an area, seed it, continue. Outside of that, Bound will defend themselves with brutish strength, ember breath, and very little intelligence.*if the idea of a plant zombie drone corpse of your character squicks you out, the ember seed made a whoopsie instead and gave them a double dose that turns them to a tidy pile of ash from which a single lovely flower of the player's choice springs up!
WEAKNESSES
While it has no vital organs and becomes harder to kill with each Bound it creates, Beneficent is psychically wounded when the Bound are extinguished. The best way to kill it once no Bound remain is in fact with fire. A lot of it.
